Albir

A four-storey skyline limit, a Blue Flag pebble beach, and a reputation for wellness rather than nightlife.

✈️ ~45 min from ALC airport ☀️ 300+ sunny days a year 🏢 4 floors max building height

Albir (officially part of the Alfaz del Pi municipality) sits directly between Benidorm and Altea, and is best known for two things: a strict four-storey height limit that’s kept the skyline low and the sea views open, and Playa de l’Albir, a Blue Flag pebble beach backed by the Sierra Helada Natural Park. It’s built a genuine reputation as a wellness town — yoga, walking, clean sea air — rather than a resort one, while Benidorm’s beaches and nightlife are a ten-minute drive away when you want them.

Discover Albir

Albir’s defining decision was a planning one: a strict four-storey height limit that’s kept the town low-rise while its neighbours grew upward. The result is a seafront where sea and mountain views stay open from most streets, not just the front row. The promenade — Paseo de las Estrellas — carries its own small Walk of Fame, with tiles honouring Spanish actors and directors, and runs the length of the beach past cafés and low-key bars.

Look south from the beach and you can pick out the Peñón de Ifach, Calpe’s landmark rock, on a clear day. Behind the town, the Sierra Helada Natural Park rises straight from the sea — a marked coastal path leads out to the old lighthouse, one of the more rewarding short walks on this part of the coast. Albir also carries a genuine wellness reputation: yoga retreats, alternative therapies, and a slower daily rhythm than its livelier neighbour Benidorm, which sits about ten minutes away by car.

What to weigh up

Worth knowing

  • The four-storey height cap means open views almost everywhere, not just sea-front properties
  • Blue Flag beach, backed directly by a protected natural park
  • Benidorm’s beaches, shops, and nightlife are a ten-minute drive when you want them
  • Quieter and more residential than either Benidorm or Altea

Worth considering

  • The main beach is pebble, not sand
  • Technically part of Alfaz del Pi — fewer services directly in Albir itself
  • Limited nightlife of its own; most people go to Benidorm for that
  • Smaller and quieter can mean less choice of shops and restaurants than the bigger towns
best time to visit

When to go

MAY – JUNE

Warm enough to swim, with the Sierra Helada trails still comfortable to walk before the height of summer heat.

JULY – AUGUST

Peak heat and peak season — Albir stays calmer than Benidorm even now, but book ahead regardless.

SEPTEMBER – OCTOBER

Sea stays warm, crowds ease off, and the lighthouse walk is more comfortable again after summer’s heat.
